This Matariki weekend, we're bringing back the tradition with the Twizel Gold Coin Jumble Sale – a community day full of bargains, baking, and good old-fashioned community spirit.
With many families feeling the impact of rising living costs, this event is all about helping people pick up useful items at affordable prices while supporting a great local cause.

Can you get to the mountain under your own steam?
Join us for the second annual Ōhau Green Steam on Sunday, 13 September 2026 and challenge yourself to reach Ōhau without using a car.
Whether you choose to walk, run, cycle, ski-tour, or combine methods, Green Steam is all about embracing active transport, reducing emissions, and enjoying the journey as much as the destination.
Last year a small but determined group took on the challenge. This year we're opening registrations for just 20 participants, so get in early to secure your place.
What is Green Steam?
Participants travel to Ōhau under their own steam, celebrating sustainable recreation and the incredible landscapes of the Mackenzie Basin and Waitaki region.
This is not a race. It's a personal challenge and a community adventure.
