Salmon and Wine Festival
One of Twizel's most popular events, the Salmon and Wine Festival takes place at the end of February each year and draws huge crowds from across the region.
Every year Twizel hosts a variety of events, including Arts on Tour, the Bubbles & Inspiration speaker series, and the NZ Mountain, Film and Book Festival. The annual Twizel Upcycle Market is held every November to herald in the beginning of the Christmas holiday period. With craft stalls, food vendors, and two competitions that encourage participants to upcycle items they would otherwise dispose of, the Upcycle Market is a popular day out for the whole family.
The most popular event on Twizel’s social calendar is the annual Twizel Salmon & Wine Festival – a day of tasting local salmon, and beer and wine from some of the South Island’s best craft breweries and boutique wineries.
Twizel’s Lake Ruataniwha is home to the South Island Rowing Complex, which hosts a myriad of competitions throughout the year, including the Aon Maadi Cup every two years. A busy rowing calendar and a slew of other annual events ensure there is never a dull moment in Twizel.
